Think that it’s too hard to get into an exercise routine if you have kids? Think again! By involving your children in your exercise program, you will get in the fitness that you need as well as encourage your children to exhibit healthy behaviors that last a lifetime.

Why should I exercise with my kids?
There’s no doubt that the number of children with obesity issues is rising, along with that of the rest of the population. When your family makes a point of being active together, then you can prevent or reverse weight gain in your children. Additionally, you will be building healthy habits which will make them unlike to ever become obese, even in adulthood.

When should I exercise with my kids?
The short answer is that you can exercise with your kids whenever you can! People who either don’t work or work from home and have very young children don’t have to deal with work or school schedules, so they can exercise whenever they want. As children get older, it may be easier to have exercise time after dinner or on weekends.

What types of exercises can I do with my kids?
If your children aren’t yet walking, then it’s easy to put them in a stroller and go for a walk or a jog. Toddlers enjoy playing simple games such as tag. Older children will enjoy going on a nature walk or a family bike ride. Rainy day? No problem! Most kids love doing a dance or aerobics video inside the house.

Whatever exercises you choose to do with you children, you are guaranteed to become closer to them and to make a positive impact on their lives.

So get out and get moving!

Shannon Tani is a former fattie, who weighed over 220lbs. She has currently lost over 70lbs. One day she realized that people would rather hear dieting advice from someone who’s “been there, done that” than a boring old doctor who’s never been fat a day in his life. So she started the website Better Off Fat to share her experiences and ideas.
